TEAC Oval

28 April 2007

Port Melbourne Vs Bendigo Bombers

Facilities:
You cannot fault the bar at Port Melbourne. Situated under the main grandstand, it has ample room. It generally has a TV on showing whatever football should be on, in this case it was the match of the day VFL game between Preston and Werribee. The bar staff are lovely, and the patronage is a mix of the younger and the regulars during the game, and the players after the game. Old pictures of teams long ago adorn the walls, as well as framed pictures of VFL Record covers from today. There's also a nice touch of having all players on the wall with their sponsors name below, although these haven't been updated from last year. One particular contributor to this forum hopes to see his name up there next season!

The fridge is stocked with cans of VB and soft drink, whilst the tap has Carlton Draught and a light beer that has escaped me at this point, perhaps Cascade Light. The beer is reasonably priced at $3 a pot.

The outside food facilities are basically your stock standard local football ground canteen type set up. There isn't really a great deal of food, and a lack of signage probably hurts the overall grade. However, you again cannot fault the staff that run the food, for they are always smiling and happy to serve. There's also a separate tin shed for the beer in the outer, although this wasn't used by myself this day.
Facilities Grade: B

Beer: Carlton Draught On Tap

The first beer of the day came at half time. The lovely and always smiling bar woman poured three lovely pots, with just the right amount of head. The beers were cold as they should be, and definitely the right amount of bubble.
Beer Grade: A

Food:
Patties Meat Pie
Doing my usual trick of never having breakfast on the weekend, i got to half way through the third quarter and was particularly hungry. Ons got me a pie, with a touch of dead horse (although not asked for, it was a great addition). The pie went down a treat, despite probably boarding on the "too hot" side of things. Never the less, it was a decent pie and well appreciated.
Food Grade: B

Overall, the bar is a great place to mingle and enjoy a cold beer. This particular day, nearly everything was on song, and I am happy to present TEAC Oval with an over all grade of an:

B+
